Ray-Ban Vagabond Purple and Clear Changeables Sunglasses
1 Vintage Ray-Ban Vagabond Photosun Changeables sunglasses feature an eye catching purple and clear translucent frame that set the stage for the Ray-Ban Flying Colors line introduced later in the 1980s. In fact these were so early c 1960s that Bausch & Lomb referred to them as "Photosun" lenses and they were developed by Corning Optics, later to be replaced with the trademark name Changeables. A real collector item and produced in only very small quantities for a short period of time, we've only had a pair of these vintage Ray-Ban Vagabonds 2 or 3 times since 1998 so obviously they're quite rare. Ray-Ban Photosun Changeables lenses darken to 75% of their full capacity within the first minute of exposure to sunlight and allow only 20% of the light to get through. Out of sunlight, they lighten half way within the first 10 minutes and about 75% within the first 90 minutes. This is all achieved by properties infused into the glass lenses and is not a coating that will ever wear out or wear off, and it's actually not the brightness of the light which activates the change but rather the invisible ultraviolet rays which are filtered out to protect your eyes. The unisex Ray-Ban Vagabond frame measures approximately 5.5" temple to temple, and the lenses measure approximately 2.25" x 1.875" at the widest points. The inside of one ear stem is impressed B&L Ray-Ban USA while the inside of the other stem is impressed Vagabond. Very rare.
