1 Vintage Ray-Ban Caravan Tru
Pilot mirrored sunglasses are one of the rarest styles ever
produced and desired by collectors, pilots, and fashion aficionados
alike. These amazing Bausch & Lomb mirrored lenses were manufactured
with a precise line of demarcation between the fully mirrored, highly
reflective top 2/3 of the lens surface while the bottom on each side
of the nose is completely clear. The purpose of this design was to
allow pilots, racing drivers, and others to have the full benefit
of the anti-glare full mirror coating when looking anywhere but downward
where it was beneficial to have clear glass to read control and instrument
panels. This innovative design was wildly popular, but it was expensive
to manufacture these sunglasses so B&L produced them in only very
small quantities and a few number of years. The top of the nose bridge
is impressed B&L Ray-Ban USA while the bottom of the bridge
is impressed B&L 58 [] 16 USA. The unisex Ray-Ban Tru Pilot Caravan frame measures approximately 5.375" temple
to temple with lenses measuring approximately 2.125" x 1.875"
at the widest points and both lenses laser etched BL near the hinges or at the top center. Rare.
