Ray-Ban 58mm G-15 Aviator Sunglasses

Vintage Ray-Ban 58mm aviator sunglasses are the iconic Bausch & Lomb aviators that have been a top choice of both the general public and celebrities for over 60 years, featuring gold plated frame and original Bausch & Lomb G-15 anti-glare lenses perfect for all light conditions. Originally designed for the US military, classic Ray-Ban aviators were designed with an extremely light frame weighing only about 150 grams of 24k gold-plated metal along with the G-15 mineral glass lenses to filter out 100% of infrared and ultraviolet rays. The 58mm G-15 aviator lenses provide full coverage to the eye yet sit comfortably on the face, measuring approximately 2.25" x 1.875" at the widest points. The unisex Ray-Ban aviator frame measures approximately 5.25" temple to temple and is impressed B&L Ray-Ban USA on top of the nose bridge and impressed B&L Ray-Ban 58 [] 14 on the bottom of the bridge. The right lens is laser etched Ray-Ban, both lenses are laser etched BL near the hinges, and on some production one ear pad is impressed L0205 or L2928, part of a retired Air Force officer's collection in Sarasota, Florida.

Vintage Ray-Ban classic 58mm G-15 aviator sunglasses are identical in appearance to those pictured below except they were produced earlier c 1960s - 1970s before Bausch & Lomb began the practice of laser etching their logo on the lenses and as you can see here. They are otherwise identically marked with the top of the nose bridge impressed B&L Ray-Ban USA and the bottom of the bridge impressed B&L Ray-Ban 58 [] 14.

From the transitional period c 1999 immediately after Luxottica purchased the Ray-Ban company and brand from Bausch & Lomb, inventory supplies were being liquidated and you had a small number of mixed production aviators sold into the market. Very hard to find, these Ray-Ban 58mm aviators combine an original Bausch & Lomb gold plated aviator frame with Luxottica produced G-15 mineral glass lenses. The only way you can tell is with the RB versus BL etching on the lens, for during this period they were still using Bausch & Lomb techniques, materials, and machinery.

JUST NEED LENSES? If you've got a good Ray-Ban 58mm aviator frame and would like a nice set of B&L Ray-Ban Ambermatic lenses to put in them, here's your chance. Just in, the frame has some pitting to the gold plating that immediately eliminated them from meeting our condition standards but the original Bausch & Lomb Ambermatic lenses in them are in excellent condition with a few de minimus marks outside the field of vision. Any optical shop can remove the lenses and they'll fit perfectly in any B&L Ray-Ban 58mm frame to give you a great pair of original Ray-Ban 58mm Ambermatic aviator sunglasses. The right lens is laser etched Ray-Ban and both lenses are laser etched BL near the hinges.
