Ray-Ban L2846 62mm Aviator Sunglasses

1 Vintage Ray-Ban L2846 62mm aviator sunglasses from the Large Metals collection feature the iconic gold plated frame with traditional paddle ear stems, a timeless sunglass design that's stood the test of time. Bausch & Lomb created aviator sunglasses and anti-glare G-15 lenses like these in response to a need in the US military for high optical quality sunglasses that could protect pilots and others in the armed forces from the dangerous effects of glare. Subsequently marketed to the general public in the early 1950s, both 58mm and 62mm aviators became wildly popular. The B&L Ray-Ban 62mm frame measures approximately 5.5" temple to temple with 62mm G-15 mineral glass lenses measuring approximately 2.375" x 2.125" at the widest points with right lens laser etched Ray-Ban and both lenses laser etched BL near the hinges. The top of the nose bridge is impressed B&L Ray-Ban USA while the bottom of the nose bridge is impressed B&L Ray-Ban 62 [] 14 and on some production one ear pad is impressed L2846, part of a collection of fine and early Ray-Ban aviators owned by a top commercial pilot for British Airways.
