American Optical Ful Vue Safety Steampunk Goggles

1 Get out the motorcycle and hop on with these vintage American Optical silver (nickel plated) Ful Vue safety steampunk goggles c 1940s with original marked green B&L Shade #2 or the identical AO Calobar sunglass lenses and durable, high quality construction. During World War II, Bausch & Lomb outsourced some of their production to American Optical which would mark their frames AO but use B&L glass lenses and the B&L "Ful Vue" brand. Ful Vue refers to the mounting of the hinge blocks high on the glasses so the peripheral vision is unobstructed. This is one of the best examples we've seen of early goggles like these which were used extensively in World War II by the US military, with etching on the nose bridge and strong yet flexible shooter ear stems for a secure fit. You won't find many vintage steampunk goggles in any circumstances, but these B&L Shade #2 or equivalent AO Calobar lenses measuring approximately 1.75" in diameter were the intermediate shade of glass produced by jointly Bausch & Lomb and AO during the 1940s and block about 50% of visible light and almost 100% of UV light. Shade # 3 (RB-3) glass lenses would replace these earlier shades in the 1950s and they were no longer made. The rear of the nose bridge is impressed AO 23 Ful Vue in a frame that measures 5.0" temple to temple to make them perfect for men and women - and great for motorcycle riding and other active outdoor pursuits in the 21st century. Early and rare.
