Oakley Mars X Metal Black Iridium Sunglasses
1 Vintage Oakley Mars sunglasses are a sleek futuristic design, the first generation matte gray X-Metal masterpiece with original Oakley Black Iridium lenses in an icon of modern sunglasses design. First introduced in 1997 and produced in the original form with serial numbers for only a few years, vintage Oakley Mars sunglasses were originally fashioned after the needs of basketball superstar Michael Jordan, then a Board Member of Oakley. Oakley Mars sunglasses are made of the revolutionary Oakley X Metal, an alloy composition of 5 distinct (and proprietary - thus the "X" moniker) metals. We do know Oakley X Metal sunglasses are partially formed with titanium, a notoriously difficult metal to work with. For this titanium and other metal elements to attain a malleable consistency, a temperature of over 3000 degrees must be reached, and Oakley built a new facility with a 6 ton, 425,000 watt generator on site along with custom machining tools to produce X Metal and these vintage Mars sunglasses. Ear stems and nose bridge are attached by a joint that allows them to move independent of each other for great fit. The unisex Oakley Mars frame measures approximately 5.5" temple to temple, and the Black Iridium lenses measure approximately 1.675" in diameter. You'll find the impressed M series first generation serial number in the X Metal Mars frame just behind one of the hinges on the ear stem, rubber "25" inserts covering the two hinge joints for the stems, and one ear pad is impressed Made in USA and the other is impressed CE.

2A Step up another level beyond our already unequaled vintage condition standards with new old stock Oakley Mars sunglasses that includes an original Oakley nylon zippered case to store your Mars sunglasses plus extra nose pads. The internal nose bridge coupler has loosened slightly over the years so there's a little bit of flex. The coupler can be replaced if you so desire but it's so de minimus not to mention makes them more comfortable to wear that we would leave it as is.
